Before You Fly: A Pre-Departure Checklist

By ZAMIST Editorial13 August 20261 min read

The visa is approved, the offer is confirmed — now comes the final stretch. A structured checklist keeps the last weeks calm.

Eight weeks before

  • Accept your offer and pay any deposit due
  • Apply for accommodation (university halls or private)
  • Book flights once your visa is in hand
  • Arrange health insurance and any required vaccinations

Four weeks before

  • Open a travel-friendly bank arrangement; carry some local currency
  • Notify your current institution/employer
  • Copy every document (cloud + paper): passport, visa, offer, insurance
  • Start packing to airline weight limits

One week before

  • Confirm airport transfer or arrival route
  • Download offline maps and university contacts
  • Say your goodbyes — and set a first video call with family

Arrival day

  • Keep your document folder in hand luggage, never checked
  • Follow your arrival plan: transport, keys, SIM card
  • Rest, hydrate and take it one step at a time

Our pre-departure guidance covers each of these stages in detail, tailored to your destination.
